Introduction:

@Youngnim Choi, D.D.S., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Immunology and Molecular Microbiology Program at the Seoul National University School of Dentistry. Her academic career began at Seoul National University, where she earned her D.D.S. in 1991, followed by a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1995 and post-doctoral training at the National Human Genome Research Institute/National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD, USA.

Dr. Choi's research focuses extensively on the intersection of oral microbiology and immunology, with specific interests in the role of the oral microbiome and immune response to oral bacteria in the pathogenesis of oral lichen planus, oral ulcers, Sjogren's syndrome and periodontitis. Throughout her career, she has secured significant funding from organizations such as the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Her work is widely published in prestigious journals, including NPJ Biofilms and Microbiomes, Periodontology 2000, Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, and Infection and Immunity.
